Balgo town in the desert

Rainy day bicycle with plastic wrap to Perth Domestic airport. Enroute via Subiaco.

Lunch on the Qantas flight from Perth to Broome.  Chicken pie.

View from Qantas lounge in transit at Broome airport.

Lunch on the airnorth flight from Broome to Kununarra. Egg & lettuce and a ham & cheese sandwich.

Stayed at Hotel Kununarra.  Good sleep.  Watch 2 movies on Foxtel.

The boabab tree outside hotel.

Bright early departure with Shoalwater air. Two hour air journey in small single engine plane to Balgo. Normally 8 hours by car into the desert but 2 hours by plane.

The hangar & getting ready.

Kununarra airport light planes.

Taking off view of Ord River.

Landscape scenes from the air at 6000 ft flying at 150mph.

Airfield Balgo. Was in lockdown due to communal riots between feuding families.

Police cars ready to deal with the riots in dusty town square.  At least 3 landcruisers and 8 policemen?

Kid trying to get away. Not many trees to climb in the desert environment.

Our accommodation - Hylton Hotel Balgo made from demountables or containers?

Kangaroo tail for sale in the community store.

$20 per tail.

Mulan community artist with her paintings. See below

The plane home from Balgo a twin engine Cessna - faster getaway. Request immediate evac due to the riots.

Night flight in the small plane for the quick escape. Cock pit lights and the runway lights stretching out. Not the most comfortable flight but no choice as have to fly out ASAP. Or else shut ourselves up in the Hylton Hotel Containers.

Another night in Kununarra hotel due to the early escape from Balgo Hylton. My bed in the hotel Kununarra. Escaped the pepper sprays and the head injuries from the clubs used in the fights.

The Qantas sandwich from Broome to Perth.

Then home in a 2 hour bicyle ride due to wet weather and a heavy bag full of desert info.
